An interactive reading bulletin board can help you track progress in a class reading goal. Many teachers have used this bulletin board to track reading one hundred books as a class. Plus, it makes for a beautiful addition to your classroom decor, promoting the love of reading. If you choose to write the names of books completed as a class, it’s also super fun to reminisce on all the books read together.

Why Use This Reading Bulletin Board

Ways to Use

There are a few ways to use this Books We’ve Read Bulletin Board. Use it as a class book tracker to give students a visual for progress toward a class reading goal. The reading bulletin board can also be used as classroom decor, by writing well-known book titles, like Wild Robot & Front Desk, on the book spines.

Use as a Class Book Tracker

If you decide to use the reading bulletin board as a class book tracker, you’ll first have to set a reading goal with your class. The reading goal could be for books that students finish independently or for books read aloud as a class. If you’re tracking class read-alouds, it works best to pick a smaller number of books, if you’ll be tracking novels or chapter books and a larger number if you’ll be tracking picture books or all types of books.

Books can be tracked on the reading bulletin board in a variety of ways as you complete books as a class or students complete books (whichever way you choose). Each book can be coloured in as a book is completed. Students love to be the ones to be able to colour in a book as it’s completed.

You could also write the book titles for the books that have been completed. This allows the class to look back at the board and reminisce on books read in the past which really promotes a love of books and reading.

Use as Decor

This Books We’ve Read bulletin board can also be used as classroom decor, without using it as a reading goal tracker. Simply put up the book stacks and other fun elements like the plant, lamp, and glasses to create a bulletin board that looks like bookshelves. For added fun,of print the book stacks on coloured paper and write the names of popular books on the spines.

This idea came from Miss Tracy who uses this reading bulletin board in her classroom. Miss Tracy said, “Just what I needed! Printed on coloured paper and decorated my reading bulletin board. I wrote well-known books on the spines and students’ names to create a bookshelf for the bulletin board.”

Prepping & Putting Up Your Reading Bulletin Board

Prepping and putting up the Books We’ve Read Bulletin Board is simple! Choose which bulletin board letter, book stacks and other graphics you’d like to use, then print & cut them out. Staple them to your bulletin board in rows like on bookshelves.

Bonus Student Bookshelf Template

As a bonus with the reading bulletin board comes a student bookshelf template where they can record books they’ve completed or create a TBR (to be read) shelf.
