5 Winter Classroom Door Ideas That Go Up Fast

Confession: I was a total fail at decorating my classroom door. I have real regrets. 😅

I’d buy the junky tape, put everything up, and then every single time a student opened the door, something fell off. So if your door has ever looked like mine did, these winter classroom door ideas are for you.

It’s the first thing your students see every morning, and everyone who walks down the hall sees it too. No pressure.

Winter is long. December flies by in a blur of concerts and class parties, and then January and February just sort of… sit there. So I like a winter door that goes up fast and then stays up for a while. One afternoon, a few months, done.

These are the winter classroom door ideas I’d actually put up, plus a few tips that make doors a lot less fiddly.

Easy Winter Classroom Door Ideas

1. A Silly Winter Goose Door

If you’ve been following along for a while, you know I have a bit of a goose thing. For winter, he’s holding a snow globe or a mug of hot cocoa. (I relate. Mine’s a hot latte.)

He greets everyone with “Welcome to the Flock,” and the 3 speech bubbles mean he can tell a winter joke, say good morning or remind everyone that it’s indoor recess. Again.

The big goose does most of the decorating for you, which is my fave part. You’re not cutting out a hundred tiny snowflakes at 9 pm. And when spring rolls around, you just swap the goose.

2. A Winter Composition Notebook Door

Composition notebook classroom? This one’s for you.

The big notebook prints 3 pages by 3 pages, so it covers a good chunk of your door without a lot of pieces. The seasonal “stickers” are what make it winter, and the letters say “A Class to Note.” Teachers love a pun. I don’t make the rules.

My tip: laminate one of the speech bubbles and keep a whiteboard marker by the door. Now your notebook can say something new every week, and it takes about ten seconds.

3. Start December with a Christmas Goose Door

Want to go full holiday first? Put the Christmas goose up for December, then switch to the winter goose when you’re back in January.

You swap the whole goose, so there are no little outfit pieces to store (and lose).

4. Or a Christmas Composition Notebook Door

The notebook works the same way. It dresses up for December with a Santa hat and holiday “stickers,” and in January you trade them for the winter ones.

This is the easiest door switch you’ll do all year.

5. A BIG Gingerbread Door (Free!)

This one’s my gift to you. A BIG gingerbread boy and a BIG gingerbread girl. Each one prints on 9 pages, you piece them together, and they go right up on your door.

They’re literally so cute, and they’re free when you join my email list.

A Few Tips for Winter Classroom Doors

  • Skip the junky tape. Learn from me. Cheap tape means pieces on the floor every time the door swings open. Use a good tape (or whatever your school allows) so it all stays put.
  • Check your school’s rules first. A lot of schools have fire code limits on how much of a door you can cover with paper. Ask before you go floor to ceiling.
  • Go big. One large character is easy to see from down the hall, and it’s way faster to put up than lots of little pieces.
  • Laminate anything you’ll touch. Speech bubbles, name tags, the pieces that get bumped by backpacks.
  • Plan the switch. If you know what’s going up in January, you can leave the background and border up and only swap the main piece.

Which Door Is Going Up First?

The best winter classroom door ideas are the ones you can put up in one afternoon and then leave alone for a while. A goose, a notebook or two giant gingerbreads. Pick the one that fits your room (and your energy level in December).
