What would you include in your ideal healthy morning routine? Picture it, if you could spend time doing anything in the morning, what would it be? How would you start your day off? Now, keep reading for the advice I have for you when you’re developing a healthy morning routine.
Morning Routine Purpose
Reflect on the purpose of your morning routine. Is it to build a healthy morning routine? If so, is it to focus on your physical health? Your mental health? Both?
Is it to set aside sacred time to work on a creative project? To take advantage of the time when you’re most productive in order to get things done? Setting a purpose will help you decide what to include in your morning routine.
Be Intentional
There are tons of ideas out there for what to include in your morning routine and that can be overwhelming. Make sure that you’re intentional about what you include in your morning routine. There should be a reason for everything that you include. The purpose isn’t just to fill your time. Make your morning routine your own.
Start Slowly
Now, don’t add in all of those things at once. Start slowly by waking up just half an hour before you used to. As I started to fall in love with my morning routine, I started layering in more, bit by bit (AKA habit stacking). Now, I wake up almost 2 hours earlier than I used to so that I can fit in everything that I currently do.
Make It Enjoyable
Include things that you love to do into your morning routine. It’s much easier to wake up earlier when you get to do things that you enjoy. I love getting to show myself some love before I rush off to work and pour into my students. I start by planning my day and doing some gratitude journaling and that just lights me up.
Coffee Helps
Now, of course, coffee is not the healthiest part of my morning routine. In fact, if you can do it without it, all the power to ya!
But if you’re a coffee-lover, making delicious coffee at home can be a sacred time of your routine. For me, this meant splurging on a Breville espresso machine*. It’s very motivating to wake up early when I can make a delicious Americano Misto (with oat milk) at home. I swear, it’s even better than Starbucks.
My morning routine is probably my favourite time of day and that’s because I’ve crafted it with intentionality. I wanted a healthy morning routine that was an equal balance of healthy practices and productive time so that’s what I created.
