9 Bulletin Board Ideas for January (That Can Stay Up Until Spring)

Winter break is over. The Christmas board is still up. [yikes]

Let’s be real, nobody wants to spend their first week back stapling. So I rounded up my favourite January bulletin board ideas. Most of them are winter themed, not Christmas themed, which means they can stay up for weeks.

Here’s what I looked for when picking these January bulletin board ideas:

  • It isn’t Christmas. (Obviously.)
  • It can stay up through February, or most of it.
  • It goes up fast, because the first week back is a LOT.

Okay, let’s get into it.

9 January Bulletin Board Ideas I Love

1. A Winter Goose Bulletin Board

Got a goose classroom theme? Your goose is ready for winter too. It’s one big goose holding a snow globe or a mug of hot cocoa, plus speech bubbles, banner pieces and “Welcome to the Flock” letters. One big character means fewer pieces to put up. Your first week back will thank you.

It works on your bulletin board or your classroom door, so you can put it wherever needs a refresh most. And since it’s winter, not Christmas, it can stay up long after the break.

2. A Winter Composition Notebook Board

Composition notebook classroom? This winter board matches the rest of your room, so January doesn’t throw off your whole look. Matchy-matchy, even in the middle of winter.

Use it on the board, the door, or both. You get a big composition notebook, seasonal notebook “stickers,” speech bubbles, banner pieces and “A Class to Note” letters. The board text is editable in Canva or PowerPoint, so you can write your own message.

3. A New Year’s Goose Board

This one is made for the first couple of weeks back. Pick your goose: one holds a disco ball, the other wears a party hat and blows a noise maker. Literally so cute. When you’re ready, swap in the winter goose and keep the same look all the way to spring.

4. A New Year’s Composition Notebook Board

Same idea, notebook style. Put it up for the first week back, then switch to the winter notebook board when New Year’s feels old news.

5. A Snow Globe and Snowman Board

Not a goose or notebook room? This winter bulletin board kit has a snow globe and a snowman, and it isn’t tied to any holiday. Put it up in January and leave it until the snow melts. You get 45 pieces, three sets of letters (“Let It Snow,” “Hello Winter” and “Cozy Winter Vibes”) and 7 student templates where kids write a winter goal or wish. So your class fills the board, not you.

6. A Cozy Fireplace Board

A fireplace on your bulletin board just feels cozy when it’s freezing outside. It’s a huge hand-drawn fireplace with two windows, book stacks and mugs of hot cocoa, plus letters like “Cozy Up & Read” and “Stay Cozy.” It works as a winter reading board too, which is a fun way to get everyone talking about books again after the break.

7. One Word Vision Boards

January is goal-setting season, so this one had to make my January bulletin board ideas list. Students pick ONE word for the year, make a little vision board around it, and the finished pieces become your bulletin board.

Honestly? Reading their words is my favourite part. You learn so much about your class from one word.

8. Snow Globe Writing Crafts

What would your students put inside a snow globe? This craft has them design their own snow globe world, then write about what it would be like to live there.

Hang the snow globes with their writing and your winter bulletin board is done. Pair it with my 30 winter writing prompts if you want more ideas for the month.

9. A Happy New Year Board You Can Reuse

Of all these January bulletin board ideas, this is the one you’ll reuse the most. It works for any year, so you can pull it out every January without buying a new one. Put it up the first week back, take it down when you’re ready for winter.

So, Which of These January Bulletin Board Ideas Is Going Up First?

If you want one board that lasts all of January and February, go winter: the goose, the notebook, the snow globe or the fireplace. If you love a fresh start moment, put up a New Year’s board for the first week, then swap.

And if you’re already thinking about next month (same), the February ideas are coming soon. Want more New Year’s ideas? Here are my New Year bulletin board ideas for the first week back.
