Three-in-One Resource

This resource is three in one; it includes the gingerbread house craft, a coordinating writing activity (with prompts appropriate for various writing levels from grades 2 to 6), and everything you need to easily set up a beautiful themed bulletin board display!

Part One: The Gingerbread House Craft

This gingerbread house craft includes everything your students will need to create their own adorable gingerbread houses! This kit also includes teacher instructions and tips to make it easy for you from start to finish.

There is a variety of decorations for students to choose from so they can create a gingerbread house to their liking! Your students can choose from three different, hand-drawn house templates and two pages of decorations that make sweet, personalized additions to their gingerbread house crafts. The decorations include candy canes, wreaths, gumdrops, doors, windows and more for each house template.

Part Two: The Gingerbread House Writing Activity

After designing their gingerbread houses, this kit also includes a writing activity that is appropriate and engaging for students of various writing levels (ranging from grades 2 to 6).

Here are a few examples of the gingerbread writing prompts included:

  1. If you designed a creative gingerbread house, what would it look like? Write about the rooms, decorations, and yummy treats inside.
  2. Write a descriptive paragraph about a village made entirely of gingerbread. Use your five senses to describe this village.

Your students can then use the gingerbread house-shaped writing template, that matches their gingerbread house craft, to write their good copy.

How To Use

Getting the gingerbread house craft going in your class is easy. Here are the steps you’ll follow.

  1. First, you’ll print everything you need for the gingerbread house craft, writing activity, and bulletin board. Each student will need a gingerbread house craft outline and a decoration page. You can choose if you’d like to give your students a choice in their house shapes, or keep them matchy matchy! Choose which writing templates, bulletin board letters, and banner pieces you’d like to use for your display and print those, too.
  2. Then, students assemble and decorate their gingerbread houses, adding personal touches and colouring the pieces for their houses. Try using felt markers for a bright, colourful bulletin board display.
  3. Choose from the provided writing prompts to guide your class’ stories. You can select a single prompt to guide their writing or allow students to pick from all the prompts provided. Have students create a final copy of their stories on the gingerbread house writing templates, and glue their gingerbread house crafts to the coordinating writing template.
  4. Arrange the crafts and writing pieces on the board to create a festive and personalized display. Add the bulletin board letters and banner pieces to complete your desired look.
  5. Enjoy your co-created and sweet holiday display that highlights your students’ creativity!
